Secret Keywords - Command Prompt



  1. Start-Run and enter “cmd” to open a Command window.
  2. net – Used to start, stop and view networking operations.
  3. ipconfig – Displays the IP Address and other TCP/IP information on your system.
  4. netstat – Returns protocol statistics and current TCP/IP connections.
  5. hostname – Displays the Microsoft networking computer name.
  6. lpq – Displays the print queue status of an LPD printer.
  7. ping – Verify the connectivity or a host across a network.
  8. nbtstat – Returns protocol statistics and current TCP/IP connections.
  9. ipxroute – Displays and modifies IPX routing tables.
  10. route – Manipulates TCP/IP routing information
  11. tracert – Displays route taken by an ICMP to a remote host.
  12. finger – Displays information about the user
  13. arp – Displays or modifies information in the ARP (Address Resolution Protocol) cache
  14. getmac – Lists the MAC (Media Access Control) Address on the computer network interfaces
  15. Add /? to the command will provide more information e.g. ipconfig show more information about ipconfig command.

Some Applications:

  1. Display Connection Configuration: ipconfig /all
  2. Display DNS Cache Info Configuration: ipconfig /displaydns
  3. Clear DNS Cache: ipconfig /flushdns
  4. Release All IP Address Connections: ipconfig /release
  5. Renew All IP Address Connections: ipconfig /renew
  6. Re-Register the DNS connections: ipconfig /registerdns
  7. Change/Modify DHCP Class ID: ipconfig /setclassid
  8. Network Connections: control netconnections
  9. Network Setup Wizard: netsetup.cpl
  10. Test Connectivity: ping www.tomstricks.com
  11. Trace IP address Route: tracert
  12. Displays the TCP/IP protocol sessions: netstat
  13. Display Local Route: route
  14. Display Resolved MAC Addresses: arp
  15. Display Name of Computer Currently on: hostname
  16. Display DHCP Class Information:ipconfig /showclassid

Notes:

Some command-line tools require the user to have administrator-level privileges on source and/or target computers.
You must have the TCP/IP network protocol installed to use the TCP/IP utilities.
